What exactly is sublingual administration of a product?

Although sublingual products often come in a tablet form that looks like it may simply be swallowed, they are not simply swallowed like an oral product; rather, sublingual administration is a method of administration that takes place under the tongue.

What are the benefits of sublingual administration?

When a product is administered sublingually, it is absorbed directly under the tongue and into the bloodstream without having to go through the gastrointestinal tract. This allows for enhanced absorption as well as quicker absorption, so a smaller dose may be used for a much greater result than a traditional orally administered tablet.

For best results utilizing sublingual products:

It is important that you do not brush your teeth immediately before or after you place your medication. Similarly, do not smoke, vape or use chewing tobacco for 1-2 hours prior to as well as after administering your sublingual, as these may interfere with the function of the mucous membranes in your mouth, potentially blocking part of the absorption of your sublingual.

Drink water before administration! Drinking plenty of water 5-10 minutes before administering a sublingual product. This will allow the body to produce a sufficient amount of saliva to properly dissolve the tablet.

With that out of the way, we begin with the administration.

Start by placing the tablet directly under your tongue and wait patiently until it fully dissolves.

After the tablet has dissolved, avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes. Food and liquid can wash away a portion of your dose and result in reduced effects and absorption of your sublingual.
